July 2016 - California Zinfandel

We had a lot of nice wines in this tasting and it was really hard to decide on a top 3. I think a few of us had palette fatigue after tasting these big wines. It is interesting that we did not have any Zinfandels from the Paso Robles area. The regional breakdown came out as follows:

  • Napa - 1
  • Mendocino - 1
  • Alexander Valley - 1
  • Lodi - 2
  • Sonoma - 4

#1 Girard, Napa Valley, 2013, $23

#2 Mauritson, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma, 2013, $28

#3 - 1000 Stories, Mendocino, California, 2014, $15

Dry Creek Vineyard, Sonoma, 2014, $16

#5 (Tie) - Bogle, Lodi, 2014 $11

#5 (tie) Seghesio, Sonoma, 2014, $22

#6 (tie) The Seven Deadly Zins, Lodi, 2013, $15

#6 (tie) Sin Zin, Alexander Valley, 2013, $22

#8 Bartholomew Park Winery, Sonoma, 2009, $37
